Well we made it through the Olympics in grand style with Whistler Village impressing visitors from around the world. Overall there were less traffic issues then planned for and in the end the amount of security seemed like over kill – but you can never be sure. The volume of people in the Village was amazing – however, I couldn’t help being impressed with the planners & designers of our great walking Village as there never seem to be too many people – other than the great gatherings for viewing the Gold Medal hockey on the 3 big digital screens. It appears in the long run the Games will be very good for business in Whistler - as you may have read or heard there were approximately 3.5 billion people who turned on / or tuned in the Olympics in some form of media – with exposure like that it seems reasonable to expect more world travelers coming in the future. As well in these post Olympic days there are daily news articles coming out from major newspapers or broadcasters about how great & beautiful Canada is and how they were all impressed with the events and the people here – again I can’t help thinking there will some positive impact from all of this in terms of future visitors and business.
On to the real estate market – The January & February sales statistics for this year show we got off to a good start – until the Olympic interruption in early February. There were 51 properties that sold during this time period – (not counting timeshare or other forms shared ownership). This compares quite favourably to19 properties sold in 2009 and only slightly less than the 60 sales in 2008 (which was one of the strongest starts in Whistler real estate sales in recent times).
Timing for buying couldn’t be better – with a diverse selection of quality properties to choose from and price levels that reflect last years down turn. To view some the best selection of properties go to my Whistler Listings page . Let me know if you have any questions.
