The Olympics are only 2 weeks away and the excitement around Whistler Village is building with new buildings, stages and celebration tents going up daily. As well the Village is starting to fill up with Olympic organizers, security people, athletes and media personnel.

As this grand event finally arrives to Whistler there has been a big turn around in the real estate market from the challenges of 2009. Sales have been steady with prices holding at the lower adjusted level from last year. All indications are that sales will be strong in 2010 as there has been a significant amount of buyer inquiries and property viewings throughout January with many buyers planning to come to Whistler after the Olympics. As well the sales volumes in January were significantly higher than many experts predicted.

In addition Vancouver expected to post best economic growth of any Canadian city in 2010. Based on the Conference Board of Canada’s report “the Olympic effect will give Vancouver’s economy enough boost to make it the top economic performer among Canadian cities this year.” The impact from this should spill over to Whistler as the largest portion of Whistler Real estate buyers come from Vancouver every year.
