Although there are still some great days left on the ski hill, most of our attention is focused towards the great summer season ahead of us. Of course Whistler will once again be the place to be - with unparalleled biking, hiking, golf, fishing, strolling the Village and people watching all complemented by an outstanding array of events.
It starts in May with Whistler Wellness Week, followed by has the RBC Olympics Experience, in June. July kicks off with ARTWALK and finishes with the three day music extravaganza - The Pemberton Festival. August features CRANKWORX and the Campground C concert. Whether you want to relax or be entertained Whistler will have it all this summer.
The real estate market activity in Whistler continued at a brisk pace in the first quarter of 2008. Dollar sales volume and unit sales matched the activity seen both in the last quarter of 2007 and on a year to date basis with 2007. Single family home sales declined but this was due to a reduction in the availability of homes in some price ranges rather than a lack of buyer interest and condominium sales have been ahead of last year in both sales volume and selling price. Any properties coming to market that are competitively priced are selling within 30-60 days while properties that are to aggressively priced are being pasted over.
A good word of our current market is “Balanced” – there is strong buyer demand, however, the buyers are well informed and aren’t buying “anything at any price”.
With this in mind, the current market can be a good time to purchase as we are just coming off a 3 year lull. In many cases the prices are still just getting back to the level they were at in 2002-2003 and with the world wide attention of the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics as well as increased overseas skier visits there appears to be great upside potential for Whistler real estate.
