Whistler Green guidelines moving to the next step

Following extensive research and a public review period, Whistler Green is now ready for formal Council endorsement. Based on feedback from designers, builders and interested citizens municipal staff revised the draft program for detached dwellings so that it can be easily incorporated into new construction or renovation projects at any scale.

Staff will now request Council's permission to require that all applicants for residential development complete the Whistler Green checklist. Initially, compliance will be voluntary, but the RMOW will research opportunities for mandatory green building measures to be introduced in the years ahead.

Relative to conventional methods, homes built to the Whistler Green standard will have significant environmental, economic and human health benefits. They incorporate sensitive site work and landscape planning; use energy, water and materials efficiently; and create healthy, comfortable living environments.

Hundreds of additional dwelling units are proposed in Whistler during the next 5 to 10 years in new neighbourhoods and through redevelopment within existing settled areas. Whistler Green homes will set a new standard for residential construction that is consistent with Whistler2020 and serves as a model for the community.
