Whistler's Newest Neighbourhood

The 2010 Winter Games will have two athlete villages, one in False Creek area of downtown Vancouver and the second in Whistler. Whistler's Olympic and Paralympic athlete village will serve Olympians and their support teams in the Nordic, Alpine Speed and Technical Skiing and Ski Jumping events of the Olympics, plus the Paralympians and their support teams in the Paralympic Alpine and Nordic events. Post Games, the area will be turned into Whistler's new resident neighbourhood, with a mixture of housing types, indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, convenience retail and other services,  serviced by public transit. The neighbourhood will be a model of sustainable living.

The Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Athlete Village is under development in south Whistler, across from Function Junction adjacent to the old landfill site and bordered by the Whistler Interpretive Forest. The site was chosen through an extensive public consultation program in 2003-04, as part of an overall Whistler visioning exercise. Residents and stakeholders overwhelmingly indicated a desire to keep any new development in Whistler to a minimum, and to the already developed corridor.

The village/legacy neighbourhood project is managed by the municipality of Whistler's wholly owned subsidiary, Whistler 2020 Development Corporation and made possible by the support of the provincial government and VANOC.
